Transform Your Period Property with Traditional Sash Windows

Sliding sash windows are often the preferred choice for homeowners wanting to replicate a traditional period style, typical of the Victorian, Edwardian and Georgian eras. This style of window was in vogue up until the 1930s and has seen a resurgence in recent years.

A traditional sliding sash window is usually made up of two sashes that slide up and down, counterbalanced by lead weights on cords. There are also options to have more contemporary styles, where the weights have been replaced by springs, which has the advantage of allowing for a smaller rebate.

Property Style

Homes from the 18th and 19th century need special consideration when being renovated as they may be a listed property or in a conservation area. This means sash windows may be the only option to maintain the traditional characteristics of the property. Box sash windows can also add a huge amount of curb appeal to modern properties seeking a high-end, classic style.

Enjoy being creative and browse our gallery to get some design inspiration and start a Pinterest board to collate all your ideas. We have a wide range of timbers, finishes and other options to create a bespoke design. Finish colours include pastel green and cream, perfect for a country cottage feel or modern grey tones and crisp whites for a classic feel. Sash windows can include decorative elements in the timber frames and different arrangements of panes. Here’s some styles to get you started:

* Venetian – Central sliding sash with two fixed panels

* Queen Anne Revival – Several panes in the upper, one or two in the lower

* Regency or Gothic – Features arched panes instead of rectangle

Designed to Last

There is a misconception that timber windows are high maintenance and costly to upkeep for homeowners, however wood is very durable and with a little care and consideration, a timber frame can last for centuries. Timber is naturally a great insulator and our sash windows include weather stripping, draught excluders and 24mm Argon filled double glazing as standard. This ensures they meet current building requirements and help keep your home warm. Simple periodic maintenance and examination, including looking for flaking paint, cracks and decay, is all that is needed to keep your new sash windows looking their best.

Locking fitch catches provide a secure solution for homeowners and quality craftsmanship techniques eliminate rattles and noisy operations typically associated with weights and lines sash windows. This makes them a stylish and practical choice, designed to stand the test of time.
