Frequently Asked Questions About Timber Windows

13 Apr 2023

There can be so many questions when making the decision to purchase new windows, that it can be daunting. At Input Joinery, we frequently receive enquiries about our bespoke timber windows. To make things a little easier, we've compiled a list of those most frequently asked questions, to assist you in making the right selection, and put you in the know when it comes to selecting your superior-made-to-measure timber windows.

What are the Advantages of Timber Windows?

Timber windows offer a range of advantages. Whether you’re renovating your home, in the process of a self-build or just looking to the future, you want to source the very best materials for your home – especially when it comes to products that will help protect your home from the elements.

Timber windows are known for their natural beauty and warmth, providing a classic and timeless appearance that complements many architectural styles. With the proper maintenance and care, timber windows can last for decades, providing long-lasting value for your investment. Timber is a renewable resource, and our timber windows are manufactured using sustainable forestry practices, making them an eco-friendly option.

Timber windows can be customised to fit the specific requirements of your home, including size, shape, and finish, allowing for a unique and personalised look. Timber windows offer excellent sound insulation properties, reducing outside noise and creating a more peaceful indoor environment. Timber windows are easy to maintain, requiring only periodic cleaning and painting or staining to maintain their appearance and protect against weathering.

Overall, timber windows offer a range of benefits that make them a popular choice among homeowners and architects looking for a high-quality and sustainable window option.

How Secure are Timber Windows?

Wood is one of the heaviest and strongest materials you can choose for your window frames. It’s therefore more secure than other material types where you find frames can be more easily bent and broken to gain access to a property.

Being made from a natural, durable material our bespoke timber windows are perfect to keep you safe and secure from any harsh weather conditions. To help enhance this durability, here at Input Joinery we ensure all our security systems are PAS 24 tested to provide maximum security. Just to top it off, we only use microporous water-based paints or stains on our frames, which allows the wood to breathe and therefore ensures the longevity of the windows both structurally and aesthetically. This means you can be secure in purchasing Input Joinery timber windows and doors.

How Energy Efficient are Timber Windows?

Timber is a naturally insulating material, absorbing and retaining heat, keeping out the cold during those colder months. However, the energy efficiency of a window is about much more than just the frame; the glazing and draught-proofing have a major impact on performance.

All of the bespoke timber windows we manufacture at Input Joinery are built to perform. All our products come standard with double weather strips and argon-filled double glazing, demonstrating our windows’ superior draught-proofing and weather performance.

What Maintenance do Timber Windows Require?

The level of maintenance your timber products require will depend on how the timber has been treated. For example, at Input Joinery our products are treated with a high-performance, factory-applied coating system. There are plenty of choices when it comes to finishing your timber windows, whether you go with a stained aesthetic or a paint coating.

Other maintenance should include a wash down of the frames with soapy water every 12 months or so. Use a window cleaning solution on the glass and a diluted mild, pH-neutral cleaning solution on a soft cloth for the ironmongery. Be sure to avoid using any aggressive or acid-based cleaning products on your windows.
